Durham—Arthur “Artie” G. Lovejoy, IV, died July 7, 2010 unexpectedly in Portland.
He was born July 30, 1959 in Portland, ME a son of Arthur G. Lovejoy, III and E. Jean Hastings. He attended Yarmouth schools and graduated from Yarmouth High School, class of ’77. He played baseball and hockey growing up and was a member of the Yarmouth High Ski Team, having learned as a child on the slopes of Mt. Abram. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps graduating from boot camp in 1980.
He worked for many years as a commercial fisherman from the docks in Portland Maine and Gloucester Mass. Artie also dug clams and fished for lobsters throughout Casco Bay. He was a Red Sox, Bruins, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan, who preferred Nascar “the way it use to be”. He learned his love of the outdoors and hunting from his father, and enjoyed time with his cousins and brother at his Grandparents camp on Lake Winnipesaukee. He enjoyed time in the mountains of Maine, especially around Carrabassett Valley. “Uncle Artie” shared his passion for the water and outdoors by teaching his nephew Kyle how to trout fish along the Royal River.
He was predeceased by his grandparents Arthur G., Jr. and Ethel (Lund) Lovejoy, David and Ethel Hastings; his parents, Arthur Garfield, III and Jean Lovejoy.
He is survived by a brother, Greg Lovejoy of Durham; a nephew Kyle Lovejoy of Durham; a niece, Erin Lovejoy of Durham; three cousins and their families, Peter Lovejoy of Derry, NH, Paul Lovejoy of Waltham, MA; Ilona (Lovejoy) Dolaher of Wakefield, NH.
Uncle Artie you will sadly missed by your family, but forever will be in our hearts.
