Brunswick—Bernard J. McNulty, Jr., age 81, died Wednesday June 2, 2010 at Maine Medical Center, Portland.
He was born September 19, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA the son of Bernard J. and Eleanor Mae Goodman McNulty. He was a graduate of Germantown High School, Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) and received his J.D. from Georgetown University. He was a WWII US Navy veteran, serving on the USS Noa. He married Barbara Leibensperger Goetz in Allentown, PA on May 29, 1983.
He first practiced law in a maritime law firm in Philadelphia, then maintained a private civil practice. Following a distinguished and memorable career firghting crime and serving as a trial lawyer in the Montgomery County (PA) District Attorney's Office for 14 years, the McNulty’s retired to a farm in Downeast Maine in 1989, then moved to Boothbay Harbor and later to Brunswick.
Bern was a lifelong student, who enjoyed textbooks on any subject, especially math. He held a keen interest in art, music, ham radio, chess, literature, and even dabbled in oil painting. He enjoyed sailing and playing pinochle with his wife and daughter; gleefully winning the last game he ever played.
He is survived by his wife Barbara of Brunswick; a son, Thomas Bernard McNulty and wife Alison Pascale of Arlington, VA; two daughters Karen McNulty Speidel and husband David of Charlotte, VT, Kristen McNulty of Surry, ME; a step-son, Gregory Goetz of Cocoa, FL; a step-daughter, Kristine Goetz of Panama City, FL; a brother-in-law, Raywood Leibensperger of Deland, FL; a sister-in-law, Jane Fabiny of Mountaintop, PA; four grandchildren, Kate Speidel of Brooklyn, NY, Anna Speidel of Charlotte, VT, Kalyn McNulty of Arlington, VA, Ryan McNulty of Arlington, VA.
