Obituary:
Alan Roy Davis a Cundy's Harbor native, departed this life at peace Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at his home on Dyer's Cove with his wife by his side. He was born in Bath, ME, July 16, 1949, the son of Roy F. and E. Madelyn Davis. Alan Davis attended Dyer's Cove Road School on Great Island and is a 1969 graduate of Brunswick High School Dragons. He also attended the Portland School of Art (MEGA). He held a number of blue and white collar jobs over the years including working at BIW, but his real love of life was as an "Outdoorsman" and "Naturalist" as well as being an "Artist" and "Craftsman". Alan was a Lobsterman who loved to fish and even gained a reputation as "The Shark Man", when he stunned an eight foot shark in the cove with a large rock and dragged it ashore by its tail. Alan also loved to hunt an liked to remember the Moose he once got that filled the larder for the year. He was the best seafood chef in Maine and his chili was famous. Alan's creative talent was on display at numerous festivals and craft shows and brought joy to those who appreciated it. For those who knew him well, he enjoyed all forms of life and nature's blessings. Alan liked to study the folklore and history of numerous cultures around the world along with their magical and mystical spirituality and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and insights with others. Self described as a follower of none, but a respecter of all faiths. At Medieval re-enactments he portrayed himself as a Celtic Warrior. He married Laurel Adelle Carrick January 6, 1988 (Epiphany, 12th Night) and their life together has never been dull. Alan always had a knack of turning a crisis such as an "ice storm" or whatever into an adventure. Laurel describes him as the most "Honest" person she ever met and they were so much a part of each other that they could see through each other's eyes. Together, they were both ying and yang. His mistress (her only rival) was the sea. Alan Davis is also survived by a son Chad Davis & his wife Christina of Chesterville, ME.; his two married brothers (Steve & Deb Davis of Great Island and Jim & Diane Davis of Bailey Island); a married sister (Linda & James Melton of Great Island and Valrico, FL); and a granddaughter, Virginia. Alan Davis' body was cremated and will be interred at Cranberry Horn Cemetery. Per his request, there will be no services for him, but instead his family and friends will hold a gathering later this summer. Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust! "WASWAB" So Be It! Amen!
