Obituary:
Pauline R. Bernier, 78 of Harpswell one who knew how to love, give and care for family and friends, slipped away into eternal rest at Hill House in Bath with he family at her bedside April 29, 2010. She was born in Augusta, Maine January 5, 1932 the daughter of Aime Jean Baptiste Lacharite and Grace Marie (Gagne) Lacharite. She lived in Augusta, West Port Island and Brunswick, maine. She attended schools in Brunswick and lived in Lewiston after marrying Armand R. Bernier February 20, 1950. Later she and her husband moved to Great Island in Harpswell where they raised their seven children. Pauline served as a Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader for many years as well as past President of the Harpswell Island School P.T.A. She also hosted “Fresh Air Fund Children” from New York for 12 years. Her heart was ever open and giving to children. She had been employed throughout the years at the shoe factories in Lewiston, the Shrimp Lab of Pinkham Point, the Stowe House, Bowdoin Drive-In Theater, and most recently at the former Child’s Play Day Care/Nursery School of West Harpswell; she was effectionately known as “Memere” by the children of the West Harpswell area who attended the day care. Pauline loved her family dearly, both her immediate family as well as all her day care children. She always remembered their birthdays and loved to buy gifts and special surprises. She enjoyed the company of her cat “Ginger”, feeding the birds and ducks that would visit her yard and the horses next door. She enjoyed flowers, dining out and shopping the “sales”. She was an avid fan of WWE wrestling and loved inspirational music of Daniel O’Donnell. Pauline was predeceased by her husband Armand, parents, sister, Joan Mann; also a grandson Daniel Leeman. She is survived by her brother, Alfred Aime Lacharite and his wife, Jeanne; her children, Linda Toothaker and her husband Olcott, Kathleen Tuck and her husband Tom, Charmaine Heffron, Nancy Wyman and her husband Alton, Michael Bernier and his wife Connie, George Bernier and his wife Paula, and Carl Bernier and his wife Debbie. She had 19 Grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, May 8, at the West Harpswell Baptist Church with her son in law, Pastor Tom Tuck officiating. It is the wish of the family that memorial contributions be made to the Daniel Leeman Scholarship Fund at the Wiscasset High School, 272 Gardiner Rd, Wiscasset, ME 04578, or to the Harpswell Neck Fire and Rescue, who had so professionally and caringly transported her several times to the hospital, c/o Ruth Rose, PO Box 8, Harpswell, ME 04079.
