Mary Hill, a resident of The Highlands, entered eternal life on Thursday, the 18th of March. She is survived by her loving husband, (Bill) Dr. William E. Hill, Jr.; her daughters, Susan Beaman, Georgetown, ME, Mary Lou Fay, Fort Worth, TX, and Jennifer Couture from Vernon, CT; She had five loving grandchildren, Julie, Erin and Laura Fay, Daniel and Sarah Couture, and two great grandchildren, Carson and Hannah Simmons who gave her great joy. Mary leaves behind many friends in the Bath/Brunswick area as well as in Connecticut. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight W. and Isabelle D. Pierce of Bath, Maine; and her brother, Dwight W. Pierce, Jr. of Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
Born on July 17, 1927 in Bath, ME., Mary graduated from Morse High School in 1945 and Westbrook Jr. College in 1947, and was employed by Bath Iron Works. She met the love of her life, Bill at Popham Beach and spent every summer there. She lived shortly in Philadelphia, PA where Bill attended medical school and they settled in Naugatuck, CT. where she raised her family. They retired to The Highlands in 1998.
Mary loved to volunteer and could be found most Mondays and Fridays at Mid Coast Hospital where she assisted at the information desk or at the Maine Maritime Museum.
Prior to this she had been an auxiliary Board Member as well as gift shop buyer for the Waterbury Hospital where she contributed over 4000 hours of volunteer service. She was an active member of the Popham Circle, Popham Library and Popham Chapel. She also was an avid knitter and seamstress which especially benefited newborn babies and children. She will be remembered by her wonderful smile which could light up a room.
A celebration of her life is planned for July 18 at 2PM at the Popham Chapel.
