Name: Charles L. Merrill Jr. Date: June 9th, 1929 - January 14th, 2010 Obituary: Brunswick—Charles L. Merrill Jr., 80, of Brunswick died Thursday January 14, 2010. He was born in Boston MA June 9, 1929 the son of Charles L. and Hazel Harvey Merrill. He was a graduate of Lexington, MA High School ’48, and the Kents Hill School ’50, Maine. He was a US Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War. He married Elizabeth I. Rand in Lewiston on June 3, 1951. Mrs. Merrill died January 29, 2009. He owned Merrill’s Carpet, Brunswick from 1968-1994 and was the Vice President of Supplies for NRF Distributors, Augusta from 1995-2006. Among his accomplishments he received the Sherwin Williams National Dealer Sales Award in 1960, the Brunswick Chamber of Commerce Valued Member Award in 1985, and the Alumnus of the Year Award for Kents Hill School in 1986. Mr. Merrill also served as President of the Board of Trustees for Kents Hill School from 1988-1991. He enjoyed occupying himself with woodworking, and playing tennis and golf. He is survived by two sons, Christopher L. Merrill of Topsham, Andrew C. Merrill of Brunswick; a daughter Susan Elizabeth Merrill Lonsdale and her husband Thomas of Forked River, NJ; a sister, Patricia M. Dunn of Kennebunk; four grandchildren, Matthew, Kimberly, Julia, Samantha.
