Harpswell, Maine – Edward V. “Ted” Bush, age 64, died while sailing in the Monhegan Race, off the Maine coast on August 8, 2009. He died while doing what he loved most!
He was born August 21, 1944 in Boston, MA the son of Dr. Richard D. and Catherine Lyon Bush and the grandson of Dr. Vannever Bush. He attended the Belmont Hill School, Belmont, MA and graduated from the Tilton School, Tilton, NH. He earned a B.A. from Bowdoin College, class of 1967, where he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi and R.O.T.C., and he received his M.B.A. from Boston College. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran, having served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. He married Cynthia Rzeczkowski June 26, 1976 in South Dennis, MA.
Mr. Bush served as a hospital administrator for Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He also owned ADC Inc., Braintree, MA and Marine Design, Bourne, MA as well as being a small business consultant. He was a volunteer at the Harpswell Neck Fire and Rescue, the Harbor Master of High Head Yacht Club in Harpswell, the Bethel Historical Society and the president of the Middle Intervale Meeting House also in Bethel, Maine. He was a Mayflower descendent with long existing family ties to both the Cape Cod and Bethel areas.
Along with being an avid sailor, he also enjoyed skiing and fishing. He was a voracious reader and was known by friends as “the tracker’ because of his innate ability to find and implement solutions.
He is survived by his wife Cyndy and their two golden retrievers, Higgins and Jackson, of Harpswell; and uncle, Harry Kuzyk of Bethel, Maine; several cousins; and special friend, Bill W.
