Topsham—Barbara Marie Gray, age 62, died at her home, Friday June 19, 2009 after a brief illness.
She was born in Boston, MA, on April 23, 1947, the daughter of Andrew and Helen James, Sr. She attended elementary school in Cambridge, MA and graduated from Cambridge High and Latin in 1965. She also attended Burdett College in Boston, MA.
On Dec 28, 1968 she married Peter Gray in Cambridge, MA, who she met at a college fraternity party.
Barbara was a great friend and supporter of many feline organizations, especially The Coastal Humane Society and A Paw in the Door. Her five cats were all not wanted or abandoned pets. And she loved her feral cat “Smudge”. Her cats were her grandchildren. She was an avid gardener who took pride in her many flower and rock gardens that she created. She enjoyed boating and canoeing in Merrymeeting Bay.
She is survived by her husband Peter and daughter Jennifer Gray both of Topsham, a brother Andrew James and his wife Susan of Arlington, MA and brother Kevin James and his wife Cindy of Cedar Rapids, IW and several nieces, nephews and cousins and six cats, Harry, Pokey, Ichabod, Beatrice, Eugenie and Smudge.
Barbara worked at Northeast Bank, Maine Line Tours and retired from L. L. Bean.
She and her husband owned and operated the TCBY yogurt and ice shop in Brunswick for several years.
