Obituary:
Louis Eric Johnson, age 81 of Topsham, died Sunday March 29, 2009 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta. He was born in Ridgewood, NJ on March 6, 1928, a son of Otto H. and Mary M. Dorion Johnson. Mr. Johnson faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years and served during WWII and the Korean War. After his retirement from the Air Force, he attended SMCC and earned an associate degree in carpentry. He used his carpentry skills at Brockway-Smith from where he also retired in 1990. He was also employed by Neighbors, Inc. Louis was a private pilot and instructor for over 20 years. He flew and instructed at Augusta and Portland as well as flying for the Civil Air Patrol. He flew Puffins from Maine during their reintroduction to Newfoundland. Mr. Johnson volunteered at the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program in Brunswick, and was a member of the Maine Coast Railroad. He was also a past member of the Topsham American Legion and attended St. Charles Borromeo Church. He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothea McCormick who died in 1997; three brothers, Edward, Paul and Joseph; and a sister, Marguerite Honaski. Surviving are his sons, Eric M. Johnson of Herndon, VA, and twins, James J. Johnson and his wife, Kellie of Topsham, and Mark A. Johnson of Topsham; two daughters, Kathleen M. Vaillancourt and her husband, David of So. China, ME, and Anne M.J. Jameson and her husband, Glenn of Bowdoinham; his sister, M. Jackie Ammons of Brunswick; seven grandchildren, Abbey, Erin, Julia, Tyson, Lindsey, Bayli and Lauren; and two great grandchildren, Maddie and Morgan. Visiting hours will be from 6-8p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10a.m. Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 132 McKeen Street, Brunswick. Interment will follow at 1p.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
