Georgetown--Arthur (Art) Lewis Haskins, died Monday, March 9, 2009. He was born on October 9, 1913, in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1935 with a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. With the exception of ten years between 1946 and 1956, when he owned and operated Haskins Hardware and Haskins Appliances in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, he spent his working years at the Bath Iron Works Shipyard in Bath, Maine, retiring in 1978. For most of his life Arthur enjoyed sailing and racing sailboats, and for many years belonged to the Orr’s-Bailey Yacht Club in Orr’s Island, Maine. Arthur belonged to the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston Massachusetts and was active for many years in local branch churches of that denomination. In 1936 Arthur married Helen Doris (Dot) Proulx of Willimansett, Massachusetts. They made their home in Bath and for ten years in Wolfeboro. Dot died in 1990. They had two children: Daniel Haskins (deceased) and Carolyn Haskins Roth of Solvang, California. Also surviving is son-in-law Wayne Roth of Solvang. In 1997 Arthur married Angela Church of Georgetown, Maine, and they have resided in Georgetown since their marriage. Angela has two children: Ben Church of Palm City, Florida, and Katie Church West of Bath, Maine. Also surviving are daughter-in-law Yen Church of Palm City, son-in-law Erik West of Bath, and four grandchildren. At the request of family, services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of the Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
